Once there was a Tibetan resettlement project here but now it is a Nepalese army post though it has no permanent inhabitants. The trail continues to climb gently and the valley widens, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders who bring their livestock to graze in the high pastures during the summer months. There is a monastery which we can visit shortly before arriving at the village of Langtang, the headquarters of the Langtang National Park. The houses of Langtang and its neighbouring villages are of the flat- roofed Tibetan style, surrounded by stone walls enclosing fields of buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips and barley.

We almost are above the Tiber line. Suffice to say that the treacherous slopes and, being north-facing, the chances of ice and snow are great even in November, the least snowy month. the trail, such as it is, follows the moraines and small streams but can be hard to follow in cloudy conditions to high camp. Any contribution on this route would be welcomed.

This day will be a very tough day climb to the pass, but is views that you appreciate the most. Keldang is not quite far but it is quite steep. The snow will be the most troubling obstacle to the ascent higher up. The final stage to the pass needs extreme care, since there are apparently steep rocks followed by a steep snow slope. The Ganja La (5220m) is marked by cairns and prayer flags. On the clear day the view north are stunners. Mt. LangtangLirung (7,246m/23,773ft) plays centre stage but the peaks that ring the border are also stupendous. Far to the south are endless ridges towards the India border and over towards the Kathmandu valley. It is from here that the Trekking of Naya Kanga can be climbed, with the base camp in the area. Below is a camp area used by those climbing from Keldang to the Ganja La. En route is YangriKharka (4390m) and then the route arrives at the huts of Keldang (4270m/14009ft). Camping in Keldang.
