Mera peak and Apulaptsa pass

Any adventure loving person who is in the initial stage of mountain climbing can climb the Mt. Mera peak (6476m). It lies to the south of Everest and to the north – east of the airstrip at Lukla, standing prominently between the wildernesses valleys of Hinku and Hongu. This peak is considered the “Highest trekking peak” and does not require any excellent mountaineering experience but requires a normal ice axe and crampon skill. Its popularity comes from the fact that 5 of the world’s 14, 8,000m mountains are visible in the near distance from the summit. Getting to the summit from base camp is considered not much more than a mountain walk across a crevassed glacier. Its high altitude must be respected, however, and acclimatization must be done at the recommended pace ideally reaching the summit 12 days after leaving Lukla. There are many options for perfecting acclimatization. If you will have more than 17 days after flying to Lukla, perhaps first trek to Everest Base Camp, then cross the Amphu Laptsa (5,780m) or simply make a short detour to bustling Namche Bazaar/Thame/Khumjung
