OVERVIEW

Mr. Ryszard Gajewski and Maciej Pawlikowski from the beautiful country of Poland are the first successful summiteer of Mt. Dr. Harka Gurung Peak (official Peak ID HARK) / Nagdi Chuli (7,871M/25,823 FT) in 1979. Mr. Ryszard Gajewski was born on 05th October 1954 in Zakopane and is a best polish mountaineer who also is the first winter ascent of Mt. Manasalu 8,163M/   on January 12, 1984. Mr. Maciej Pawlikowski was born on 19 February 1951 also is the best Polish mountaineer who did the first winter ascent of Mt. Cho Oyu 8, 253 M/    together with Maciej Berbeka also from Poland.

Dr. Harka Grurng Peak, Ngadi Chuli also known as Peak 29, Dakura, Dunapurna, Dakum, Gurkha Massif. Dr. Harka Gurung is a very great geographer in Nepal died in a Helicopter crash at Gunsa on the lap of Mt. Kanchenjunga. To honor his contribution to the Nation Nepal, Nagdi Chuli was renamed “Mt. Dr. Harka Gurung Peak”.  Dr. Harka Gurung peak is the 20th highest peak in the world and the highest 7000ers peak in the Mansiri or the Manaslu Himal range. This comparatively technical mountain and harder to climb. Dr. Harka Gurung Peak is Located in the Mansiri Himal (Manasalu Himal) to the northern side and Himalchuli known as Himchuli to the southern border.

A team of Japanese Climbers explored this mountain in 1961. They continue to attempt and were able to reach up to 7,350M on their third time attempt in 1969. The first climb might be by a Japanese team of Hiroshi Watanabe and Lhakpa Tsering Sherpa in the year 1970 from the East Ridge to the summit of Nagdi Chuli however they lost their life due to a treacherous snowstorm when they came down. They had made camp V at the height of 7,500M to make the successful summit and had left the last camp to the summit but they disappeared out of sight from approximately 70M below of the summit at 13:15 for two and half hours. Descending through an Ice difficulty of snow ridge from the height of 7,600M to Camp IV at 6, 900M, their climbing partners observed their fatal fall. In the history of the Nagdi Chuli climbing attempt, three Japanese climbers died in the year 1978 during the seventh attempt during their mission to make proof of the first summit of Mr.Watanabe and Mr.Lhakpa Tsiring.

The three more Japanese expedition teams were operated in the years 1974, 1978, and 1982 to achieve a confirmed summit of Watanabe, however, neither got any record in films of his Camera nor in the Ice-Axe Watanabe used. All those attempts could not find any evidence of a successful summit and all the attempt got vain.

An Expedition team of the British “Army Mountaineering Association” attempted Peak 29 in the post-monsoon of the year 1982 however reach only 6,100M said because of the Falklands war, lack of logistical problems, and adverse weather. So the proven and confirmed successful summit took place officially in the year 2005 in the Name of Mr. Ryszard Gajewski and Maciej Pawlikowski of their 1979 successful ascent. Surprisingly as of 2014, there was none of any attempts have been made to climb Mt. Nagdi Chuli since the last Japanese Expedition had done in the year 198d2. It is believed that Nagdi Chuli/ Dr. Harka Gurung Peak/ Dunapurna/ Dakum/ Gorkha Massif/ Dakura or Paek 29 has only climbed once or might be twice and this beautiful Mountain is awaiting the professional and enthusiastic mountaineer to summit it.
