Mt. Dhaulagiri ‘I’ 8,167M/ 26,795FT is located in the Dhaulagiri mountain range of the Nepal Himalayas. Dhaulagiri I as known as the White Mountain is the seventh highest peak in the world among the other fourteen eight-thousanders. This peak is very popular in Nepal among the eight – thousand climbing. It lies northwest of Pokhara and the southern border of the Tibet autonomous area an important mountain climbing hub. Mt. Dhaulagiri I was discovered in 1808, it was thought to be the highest mountain peak in the world before major its height. It has remained as the highest peak for 30 years and then Kanchenjungha took its place before George Everest found the height of Mt. Everest 8,848/ 29,029FT. Dhaulagiri I is on the Gandaki Provence of Myagdi District in Nepal. Dhaulagiri I is 6.7 km north northeast of Manapathi 6,380M and 8.4 km southwest of Tukuche peak 6,920M.  Sita Chuchura 6,611M is 9.6 Km, southwest of the Tukuche peak. Sita Chuchura is 9.6 km north and Dhaulagiri II 7,751M is 12.5 Km northwest of Dhaulagiri I. Dozens of towering Snowcapped mountain around Dhaulagiri ‘I’ looks like a galaxy of Himalayan mountain.

Dhaulagiri (8,167m) (meaning white Snowy Mountain in Nepali) is the seventh-highest mountain in the world. It is located northwest of Pokhara. The peaks of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna rise 7000m over the Kali Gandaki river gorge in about 30km of horizontal distance. The Dhaulagiri mountain system consists of six prominent peaks ranging from Dhaulagiri VI (7, 268m) to Dhaulagiri I ( 8,167m), three peaks of Churen Himal – Main (7,385m), East (7,371m) and West (7,371m), the Putha Hiunchuli (7,371m) and the Gurja Himal (7,193m). The first successful ascent of the peak was made on May 13, 1960, by Kurt Diemberger, Peter Diener, Ernst Forrer, Albin Schelbert, Nyima Dorji, and Nawang Dorji members of a Swiss/ Austrian expedition.

We include enough nights in Dhaulagiri Base camp over 4750m and on the way to off the beaten zone of Hidden valley on the way to Dhampus pass/Thapa pass (5,240 M / 17,192 FT) and Dhaulagiri circuit trekking. To be acclimatized in thin air, we have designed a couple of days’ trekking schedule starting from low land ‘Tatopani’ to gradually higher land ‘Marpha’ and even a road pass to Lo-Manthang via Marpha. The Caravana route starts with climbing Mt. Dhaulagiri 8,167M from Kathmandu to Pokhara by bus/flight then again by bus to Tatopani for the first day of this Trek. We start to walk through the side trekking trail of the Pokhara-Lomanthang off-road highway and off the beaten trail starting from Marpha to Yak kharka to Dhaulagiri Base Camp.

The alternative way, we can start from Beni to Darbang to Takam to Muna to Dovan to Dhaulagiri Base Camp from the west side of Mt. Dhaulagiri. The alternative way to make the Dhaulagiri circuit route might be a good option to explore the area.
